Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...
Two weeks ago, the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted online, and with it came out first look at several new characters set to appear in the upcoming sequel and you can check them out below. Now, Disney and Lucasfilm (via EW) have come up with the genius plan to introduce fans to these new characters through images styled after Topps trading cards. Among the names revealed are Oscar Isaac’s character as Poe Dameron, Daisy Ridley’s character as Rey, John Boyega’s Stormtrooper character as Finn, the unseen Sith with the fancy new lightsaber as Kylo Ren, and the infamous “ball droid” as BB-8. Also starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou, the J.J. Abrams-directed film will debut in theaters on December 18, 2015.

I really enjoyed all of the cards and they shed somewhat of a light on the film itself. These character names really do fit in with the star wars universe. One speculation that has been going around is that the names of Kylo Ren and Rey are connected by one being Kylo Ren Solo and Kylo Rey Solo making them the Solo twins and I like this rumor especially with everything I've heard about. What's also of note is the numbers on the cards. JJ said there would be more and that they were significant and I took that as that this will reveal who all of the characters are in the film and that there are about 100 of them and that each card has a specific number and they could a bunch of different things like characters, droids or or spaceships, but for right now who knows what they could mean. My excitement for this film is through the roof and I honestly don't know if I can handle waiting a whole year for it to be released.
Just yesterday, Warner Bros. shifted the release of Joe Wright’s Pan by one week, and now the studio has moved Andy Serkis’ upcoming Jungle Book: Origins back by one year from October 21, 2016 to October 6, 2017. Serkis will direct the film as well as play the role of Baloo the bear along with Christian Bale as the panther Bagheera, Cate Blanchett as the voice of Kaa, Tom Hollander as the jackal Tabaqui, Peter Mullan as the wolf pack leader Akela, Naomi Harris as the female wolf Nisha, Eddie Marsan as her mate Vihaan, and Rohan Chand of Bad Words as the human boy Mowgli. Callie Kloves wrote the script, while her father, Steve Kloves (“Harry Potter” films), is producing. The film will now arrive two years after Disney’s The Jungle Book (October 9, 2015), directed by Jon Favreau. In that version, Mowgli is played by newcomer Neel Sethi and Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken and Giancarlo Esposito are providing the animal voices.
This is a very odd move for the film. I mean on it's original release date it wasn't really going up against anything that could hurt it at the box office and as right now the same goes for the new release date. I could only see it being a problem if there was a conflict with Andy Serkis's schedule or they just needed more time. I do like however that it's giving space between Disney's Jungle Book that way it doesn't confuse most of the general moviegoing audience. So far I like everything from the film except the new release date, but I can't wait to see it.
In September of 2012, DreamWorks Animation revealed their slate of films through 2016 which featured Kung Fu Panda 3 bowing into theaters in 2016, though it was eventually moved to a December 23, 2015 release date. Now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word this afternoon that DreamWorks Animation has pushed the third film back to its original date of March 18, 2016, moving it away from a showdown with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Continuing on his now legendary adventures of awesomeness, Po must face two hugely epic, but very different threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to home. This chapter in the continuing adventures of Kung Fu Panda is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who also helmed the worldwide hit Kung Fu Panda 2 and features a script by series writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. Jack Black returns as the voice of Po in the film along with Gary Oldman, Dustin Hoffman, David Cross, Angelina Jolie, Michelle Yeoh, Mads Mikkelsen, Danny McBride, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, Jackie Chan, James Hong, and Bryan Cranston. The first two chapters of DreamWorks Animation’s critically-acclaimed “Kung Fu Panda” franchise opened in 2008 and 2011. Both films were honored with Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature Film. Together, they have generated approximately $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office.
This is another surprising move concerning release dates. I can see why they would move the film off of it's original release date, but it would be going up against Mission Impossible 5 on its opening week and Star Wars: The Force Awakens on its second week so it won't make a lot of money, but it would have made a good chunk of change being that it is an animated film coming iut on Christmas. I think money fuled this idea and its makes sense since as of mow its only competition is The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 1 and the Warcraft film in its second week. So for as of right now I think this is a great move and let's hope it works out for the best.
John Lee Hancock, the director behind the Academy Award-winning The Blindside, is planning to tell the story of McDonalds with a new film, The Founder. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that Hancock will work from a screenplay by Big Fan and The Wrestler scribe Robert Siegel with FilmNation producing alongside Don Handfield and Jeremy Renner’s The Combine. The Founder, likened in the trade to both David Fincher’s The Social Network and Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, will tell the story of how a salesman named Ray Kroc teamed with two brothers, Richard and Maurice “Mac” McDonald, to launch what would soon become an international fast food chain that now serves 68 million customers every day. Variety, meanwhile, reports that Tom Hanks was previously approached for the Kroc role, but turned it down. Although that could change now that Hancock has come aboard, Michael Keaton is also listed as someone who has been interested in the part.
This sounds like a great idea. Listen we've all been to McDonald's at least once in our lifetimes and to see a film about how the company came to be sounds interesting. For those that don't know the story behind it isn't all sunshine and rainbows and I can see why the comparison of The Social Network and There Will Be Blood style mix fits. Also if either Tom Hanks or Michael Keaton get the main role look for that person to get an Oscar nomination (yes I'm being bold) because this film sounds like Oscar bait and I'm really interested to see the film.
According to Deadline, Penny Marshall (Big, Awakenings) will direct her first feature film in over a decade with a biopic centered around Effa Manley, the American sports executive who became the first woman to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. This is, of course, familiar territory for Marshall, who helmed the 1992 hit A League of Their Own about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). Like that film, the Effa Manley story is one of glass ceilings broken in WWII-era sports, with the African American woman serving as co-owner of the Newark Eagles baseball franchise with her husband Abe Manley from 1935 to 1946, and sole owner through 1948 after his death. The Eagles went on to win the 1946 Negro World Series. “The story is a fascinating tale of a woman who broke through so many barriers and accomplished so much for the players and the game, during a time when the face of baseball changed forever,” Marshall said. Byron Motley wrote the script, with Wendi Laski serving as producer. Marshall executive produces alongside Motley. The Effa Manley biopic is the first of a two-picture deal with Studioplex City LLC, and will shoot in Savannah, Georgia early next year. Marshall has not directed a feature since 2001′s Riding in Cars With Boys, although she has helmed two episodes of Showtime’s “United States of Tera” as well as the TV movie “Women Without Men.”
This is a great idea. Like the article says, this isn't Penny Marshall's first go around with women in Baseball during WWII. I honestly think that this is perfect for her and i'm interested in the film. I do however have one little problem with this. I feel that Marshall should have went with a different film for her return instead of doing the safe choice and I think I'd be more excited if it was another director.
