So I recently watched Suburbicon and I'm her to bring you my review. So without further ado......
Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic, suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns -- the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge (played by Matt Damon) must navigate the town's dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit and violence.
This is an utterly disappointing film considering everything and everyone involved. This is a film on its surface looks like an perennial Oscar contender with the cast and crew that it has behind it, but instead you get a film that doesn't know what it wants to be. The story is way too complicated and the decisions each character makes doesn't make any sense. The film tires to pull off a lot of different things by mixing in some satire, social commentary and mystery themes that don't gel well at all. There is a running subplot in the film that honestly has no effect on the story as a whole and you wonder why George Clooney put that in the film. Oh and by the way George Clooney directed the film and it's his worst film to date by far and no questions asked. He makes a lot of weird decisions much like the one previously mentioned. It's a film that just feels stale and boring once you finally get into it and it really doesn't help with the development of the characters either. Speaking of characters, the acting in the film is ok, but a lot of the talent is wasted and rarely used to the point where you can ask why they were in the film to begin with. Overall this film is a complete mess in every sense of the word with the only thing great about it are the performances and even those are horrible and often unbearable to watch. I give Suburbicon a 1 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Suburbicon, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
