So I recently watched My Friend Dahmer and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
Jeffrey Dahmer (played by Ross Lynch) struggles with a difficult family life as a boy. During his teenage years, he slowly transforms and edges closer to becoming a serial killer.
This is a very haunting and disturbing film. The adjectives used in the previous sentence can also be used to describe Jeffery Dahmer himself if you know who he is and what he did. If you don't know what Dahmer did, then you definitely need to check it out and you probably wouldn't believe half of it. For this film we get a look at his younger days before he became the name that he is today. The 2002 film starring Jeremy Renner didn't really give you any depth into Dahmer and every scene was just awkward, In this film every scene is pretty dark and the film really dives deep into the mystery behind Dahmer and why he did what he did. One of the more haunting things and disturbing things that the film does is that at times throughout the film, you feel a little sorry for Dahmer and for a film to go in that direction takes a lot of gusto and it paid off. The performances are great and Ross Lynch does a great job of portraying Jeffery Dahmer and he just absolutely creepy in every scene. One of the things the film struggles with is that the story feels rushed and it glosses over a lot of things without giving any in-depth detail into a lot of Dahmer's motives. The film also takes a different approach in the storytelling in the sense that in only uses two acts and that's a huge risk and it doesn't pay off because that leads to rushed storytelling as mentioned before. Overall this film does give a great look at the early stages of Dahmer's life before becoming the known serial killer he is known as today, but it does rush things to where you don't get a full understanding of his motives. I give My Friend Dahmer a 7.5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of My Friend Dahmer, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
