My Review of Get Out

So I recently watched Get Out and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado..........

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he never could have imagined.

If you've ever wanted to see the most perfect horror film then you have come to the right place. From the moment the trailer was released for this film, you instantly got the feeling that the film was going to be something special. Jordan Peele is a fantastic comedian and this is a massive step outside of his comfort zone and he knocks the film out of the park. He gives us shots that you often don't see in horror films and he rarely uses the typically front facing tracking shot that you often see when the character is walking down the hallway with the camera in front of him and instead he goes from behind and just builds on the suspense that someone is behind him. Not only in the camera work does he build the suspense, but with the story itself and it is one of the more fascinating stories seen in a horror film. The fact that we got a very original horror film compared to seeing the same one over and over again with a different title felt refreshing. With a great story you need a great cast and this cast is full of unknowns and for this film it works to perfection as all of the actors give fabulous performances. The standout is of course Daniel Kaluuya  in the leading role and from the moment go with are behind his character and are connected to him emotionally as the film goes on especially when you get to the hypnosis scene (the scene shown in trailers of him sitting in a chair, eyes open with tears rolling down his face) and the scene is just something to powerful that you never see in horror films. There are some pretty frightening moments evenly placed throughout the film, but there are a couple of scenes that do drag and can take you out of the film. Overall this is a solid directorial debut for Jordan Peele and it is one of the more unique and original horror films to come out this decade and will be talked about for years to come. I give Get Out a 9.5 out of 10.
