My Review of Kong: Skull Island

So I recently watched Kong: Skull Island and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

A diverse team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers unites to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, as dangerous as it is beautiful. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.

This is a really fun and action-packed film to watch with a few problems. King Kong is one of the most iconic movie monsters of all-time and he's been brought to us in three separate films with somewhat different takes and all of which focus on finding Kong and bringing him back and in this film it stays set on one particular place. Being set in one place really just lets settle in and take in everything you are seeing without having to rush to get back to America like previous films. Out of all the Kong films, this has the best cast and the best acting which honestly isn't saying much, but the performances are good enough to help keep your interest in the film. The film is visually stunning and as good as Andy Serkis looked in the CGI as Kong back in 2005, this Kong looks 20 times better and much bigger and as we look forward a few films, he's just as bog as Godzilla putting all doubt aside and he will be tough competition. One bothersome thing that stood out in the entire film was the use of slow-motion and while in some scenes it looked pretty cool, in most other scenes however it can get on your nerves and you almost halfway expect it every single scene. Speaking of expecting something, the film is really predictable and from the very beginning you know who is going to die and who will live along with what was going to happen in the end. The comedy is great in the film and it's used in the right way to get the chuckles the filmmakers anticipated. In one case however there was an intense scene that felt way too over the top and that's when Tom Hiddleston puts on a gas mask, uses a samurai sword and proceeds to kill little monstrous birds and it once again utilizes slow-motion in the most ridiculous manner possible. One final thing that got pretty annoying after awhile was the quick editing and the way each scene was structured. They were structured with one person saying something random , then one person saying something else random, then back to the first person to repeat and give a funny look then on to the next scene where the same thing happens. Doing that doesn't allow us as audience members to really understand some of the story and developing the characters. Overall this is a solid film with spectacular visuals, great comedic timing and story good enough to help build upon what you started with in Godzilla (2014), but the over use of slow-motion and predictability factor really just take you of the film. I give Kong: Skull Island a 7 out of 10.
