So I recently watched Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
When his beloved grandfather leaves Jake (played by Asa Butterfield) clues to a mystery that spans different worlds and times, he finds a magical place known as Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children. But the mystery and danger deepen as he gets to know the residents and learns about their special powers - and their terrifying enemies. Ultimately, Jake discovers that only his own special peculiarity can save his new friends.
This is one of the stranger films of the year. Tim Burton is back to his weird ways in creating a film and universe that has his stamp on it and you can clearly tell by the visuals, characters and set design and to be honest that all just became too overwhelming. He tries to hard to make it like films of his past and this film didn't need that at all. It's a relatively simple story and that Burton just made too complicated. The performances are pretty stellar as they help you understand the characters, but they come off as very cartoonish. There are a lot of cliches in the film and some of the same storytelling elements that Burton has used in the past and it just doesn't work out well. Asa Butterfiled continues to make bad choices with his career and while it is still very young, this string of bad films really doesn't help him in the long run. The visuals do look pretty stunning however and it might be the best visuals effects in Tim Burton film ever. Overall this film looks nice on paper, but it's just the lack of motivation to be creative and too many things that just remind you of the same things you always see in Burton's films and nothing about the film feels fresh. I give Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children a 1.5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
