With the new Magnificent Seven remake being released this weekend, I thought it would be fitting to review Seven Samurai, the film that inspired the idea for both this new remake and the the 1960 film of the same. So without further ado...
A samurai answers a village's request for protection after he falls on hard times. The town needs protection from bandits, so the samurai gathers six others to help him teach the people how to defend themselves, and the villagers provide the soldiers with food. A giant battle occurs when 40 bandits attack the village.
This is just an absolutely perfect masterpiece. Akira Kurosawa is a phenomenal director and he just gets storytelling and how to develop it to where it makes the film so much more interesting. He knows how to develop characters to where you care about them throughout the entire film and he does that to perfection in this film. The film takes you on an incredible journey of triumph and seeing the actors give passion to the project gives you as an viewing member a realistic feel to the film. The last 30 minutes of this film is just insanely intense and it is easily the best collection of action scenes ever to be put in film. Everything about the film is revolutionary it introduced the world to a new way of storytelling and it's inspired a lot of filmmakers in the way they make their films even still to this day. It's a film that brings out a lot of emotion in both the film and the audience and it just makes you want to get up and go fight for something. It's a crowning achievement for a director that not a lot of people know and it's a real shame, but this is a just a pure classic film. Overall this film brings out every quality that you want to see in a film and its influences reign heavy still to this day. I give Seven Samurai a 10 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Seven Samurai, what would you rate it, are you excited for The Magnificent Seven (2016) and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
