Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...
This is just absolutely terrific casting. Joe Manganiello is a phenomenal actor and a lot of people know who he is and I think that'll help out with general audiences. If you've been following me from the beginning you'll that a few months after I started the blog the news of Ben Affleck being cast as Batman broke and leading up to it I was rooting for either Jon Hamm or the aforementioned Joe Manganiello, but to see that Manganiello made his way into the DCEU is great to see. He is someone who I think would fit in well with the DCEU eventhough after he didn't get Batman, I thought he would be a great Shazam, but I like him as Deathstroke eventhough I wanted Tom Hardy for the role. Either way this is going to be a fun film to watch when both Affleck and Manganiello go at each other.
Well I guess we can go ahead and pencil in a future Oscar winner. Daniel Day-Lewis is the best actor to ever grace the big screen and no one comes close. This man just gets so into his characters that you completely forget that there is an actor. Him and Paul Thomas Anderson teaming up is a great idea simply because of what happened that last time which resulted in Day-Lewis getting his 4th Oscar nomination and 2nd win for Best Actor and I have no doubt that he'll get a nomination again in 2018 for his film. The rumor through the grapevine is that this is going to be about a 1950's fashion designer and I think this is going to be one of the more interesting roles Day-Lewis has ever done and I'm looking forward to it.
To be quite honest, this poster is terrible. I mean yea some people like looking at Tom Cruise, but honestly that does nothing to help you sell the film. All people will see this as a Tom Cruise film especially if you've never seen the first Jack Reacher film. I just think the poster does nothing for the film for people to get interested in the story. I mean if you just want to see it because it has Tom Cruise in it that's fine, but you need to expand your spectrum on the film overall and not just on one actor. I think the film is going to be good, but I just hate the poster.

Last week, Ben Affleck created a flurry online when he released an unprompted and unexplained video of someone in a Deathstroke costume on the set of Justice League. Now, The Wall Street Journal has confirmed in an interview with Geoff Johns that the man behind the mask is none other than Joe Manganiello and (confirming an earlier report) that he will be the villain of the upcoming solo Batman movie. Johns wouldn’t comment on whether Deathstroke will appear in Justice League, though the short clip of the character was seen filming on one of the sets for the film. Created by Marv Wolfman and George PĂ©rez, Deathstroke is a famous mercenary in the world of DC Comics who has gone toe-to-toe with the Dark Knight on multiple occasions and actually beaten him in hand-to-hand combat more than once. Affleck is slated to direct the film and has co-written the script alongside Johns. No official release date has been announced for the project, though Affleck previously said he wouldn’t begin production until the script was completed. Warner Bros. previously set release dates for two untitled DC projects on October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019, meaning the film could take one of those dates.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official Live By Night trailer and, in the player below, you can take a look at the upcoming film from director Ben Affleck. Warner Bros. has also released a stylish poster for the film, which you can see in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page. An adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s 2012 prohibition era thriller, Ben Affleck also stars alongside Elle Fanning, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana, Chris Messina and Chris Cooper in the film. Part of Lehane’s “Joe Coughlin” series, Live By Night was published in 2012 with the following official description: Boston, 1926. The ’20s are roaring. Liquor is flowing, bullets are flying, and one man sets out to make his mark on the world. Prohibition has given rise to an endless network of underground distilleries, speakeasies, gangsters, and corrupt cops. Joe Coughlin, the youngest son of a prominent Boston police captain, has long since turned his back on his strict and proper upbringing. Now having graduated from a childhood of petty theft to a career in the pay of the city’s most fearsome mobsters, Joe enjoys the spoils, thrills, and notoriety of being an outlaw. But life on the dark side carries a heavy price. In a time when ruthless men of ambition, armed with cash, illegal booze, and guns, battle for control, no one—neither family nor friend, enemy nor lover—can be trusted. Beyond money and power, even the threat of prison, one fate seems most likely for men like Joe: an early death. But until that day, he and his friends are determined to live life to the hilt. Joe embarks on a dizzying journey up the ladder of organized crime that takes him from the flash of Jazz Age Boston to the sensual shimmer of Tampa’s Latin Quarter to the sizzling streets of Cuba. Live by Night is a riveting epic layered with a diverse cast of loyal friends and callous enemies, tough rumrunners and sultry femmes fatales, Bible-quoting evangelists and cruel Klansmen, all battling for survival and their piece of the American dream. At once a sweeping love story and a compelling saga of revenge, it is a spellbinding tour de force of betrayal and redemption, music and murder, that brings fully to life a bygone era when sin was cause for celebration and vice was a national virtue. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Jennifer Todd are producing the Live By Night movie alongside Affleck, who also adapted the screenplay. Live By Night is set to arrive in theaters on October 20, 2017.
I really enjoyed this trailer. First off let me just go ahead and say not only am I a fan of Ben Affleck the actor, but a huge fan of Ben Affleck the director. So far all three of his films have been solid and it's going to be so interesting seeing him take on a mobster film. People say the western genre has been completely wiped out and I have to say that the mobster films are headed that way, but maybe this film could lead to a resurgence. This film is coming out in the right time for Oscar season and I have no doubt that at the 90th Academy Awards in 2018, this film will have quite a few nominations.
Focus Features has acquired worldwide rights to writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled new film starring Daniel Day-Lewis. Focus will distribute the film in the U.S. with Universal Pictures handling international distribution. Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is producing the movie, with Anderson and JoAnne Sellar producing through his Ghoulardi Film Company. The film will begin production in January for release in 2017. Continuing a creative collaboration following 2007’s There Will Be Blood, which earned Mr. Day-Lewis the Best Actor Academy Award, and the film nominations for Best Picture, Directing, and Screenplay, Anderson will once again explore a distinctive and surging milieu of the 20th century through the new movie – the couture world of 1950s London. Day-Lewis has also won the Best Actor Academy Award for his performances in Lincoln and My Left Foot, while Anderson has also received Academy Award nominations for his screenplays of Inherent Vice, Magnolia, and Boogie Nights, all of which he directed. Ellison has received three Academy Award nominations for her work as producer of the Best Picture nominees American Hustle, Her, and Zero Dark Thirty; she was also producer alongside Anderson and Sellar on his film The Master, which was nominated for three Academy Awards. Focus chairman Peter Kujawski commented, “Paul Thomas Anderson is a singular storyteller who has the ability to mesmerize audiences by creating complex and fascinating characters. It is our privilege to bring Daniel Day-Lewis’ reteaming with Paul to movie lovers who have long hoped for their reunion.” Added Ellison, “Amongst their contemporaries, Paul and Daniel truly represent the highest tier of artistry in film. We are thrilled to partner with Peter and his entire team at Focus and collaborate once again with Paul on this ever original, visionary story. We cannot wait to see this lush world come to life with Daniel at the center.”

TWC-Dimension has revealed the first trailer for Gold, starring Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World, The Help), loosely based on the Bre-X mining scandal. You can check out the Gold trailer below! Golden Globe nominee Edgar Ramirez (Carlos, The Bourne Ultimatum), Corey Stoll (Ant-Man, “House of Cards”), Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, RocknRolla), Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek, Capote) and Golden Globe winner Stacy Keach (American History X, Nebraska) also star. Gold is the epic tale of one man’s pursuit of the American dream, to discover gold. Starring Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, he teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on an amazing journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. Getting the gold was hard, but keeping it would be even harder, sparking an adventure through the most powerful boardrooms of Wall Street. The film directed by Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan (Syriana, Traffic), with a screenplay by Patrick Massett & John Zinman (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, “Friday Night Lights”), who are also serving as producers along with McConaughey. It is being produced by Teddy Schwarzman (The Imitation Game, All is Lost) for Black Bear Pictures and Michael Nozik (Syriana, The Motorcycle Diaries) for HWY61. Gold is set to open on December 25, 2016.
I really loved this trailer. Matthew McConaughey is an absolute crazy gut and he looks absolutely crazy in this role. The film feels like a much more serious version of The Wolf of Wall Street and I really love this film. I like the chemistry between McConaughey and Edgar Ramirez and this film looks like it could be an outside Oscar contender. I think the film is going to be really funny, but very serious and I'm interested to see this story unfold.
