My Review of The Light Between Oceans

So I recently watched The Light Between the Oceans and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

A lighthouse keeper (played by Michael Fassbender) meets the daughter (played by Alicia Vikander) of the school's headmaster and is immediately captivated, and they are soon married and living on the island. Their happiness is marred only by their inability to start a family, so when a rowboat with a dead man and infant girl mysteriously washes ashore, Isabel believes their prayers may have finally been answered. As a man of principle, Tom is torn between reporting the lost child and pleasing the woman he loves.

This film is really emotional and confusing film. This film from the moment go hits you right it the feels and it brings you an opportunity to get an emotional connection with he characters. As you go on this journey with the characters you begin to feel the conflict that they face with the the child in what to do and you just get o involved and wrapped up in the story. Both Fassbender and Vikander have tremendous chemistry on screen which could be explained by their current off screen romance and historically in the past those have proven great results on the big screen. The supporting cast is phenomenal and the standout is the ever loving Rachel Weisz who actually takes a turn as a villain and she does such a great job of coming off as this despicable character that you just have to hate. Where the film fails is the story and while it is emotional at points, it does tend to be a little to over-dramatic. At times you get overwhelmed by the film and you just to get to point where you can't take anymore. Also the characters make silly decisions that don't make a ton of sense when you look at the overall narrative of the film. Overall this film has two of the best performances of the year and an emotional story, but a story that just spends too much time on the journey and emotions rather than the developments of the characters. I give The Light Between Oceans a 7.5 out of 10.
