So I recently watched Girls Trip and I'm here to bring you my review? So without further ado......
Best friends Ryan (Regina Hall), Sasha (played by Queen Latifah), Lisa (played by Jada Pinkett Smith) and Dina (played by Tiffany Haddish) are in for the adventure of a lifetime when they travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. Along the way, they rekindle their sisterhood and rediscover their wild side by doing enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.
Surprisingly, this is one of the funnier comedies to come out in recent years. On paper this may look like a bland story with a predictable plot and a lot of laughs and for the most part it is that, but it takes thing in an interesting way and it makes you care for the characters unlike other comedies. Every time one of the women are on screen in every situation, you genuinely feel that they all care for each other and even you as an audience member can feel the love as well. The situations they get put into are absolutely ridiculous and some of them are gut-busing hilarious moments that use once and mention it later on in the film and you still laugh at it. Those types of comedies are few and far between and a big credit goes to both Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver for crafting an amazing screenplay. Performance wise all of the main leads give spectacular performances and the showstopper is Tiffany Haddish who is just absolutely remarkable in every single scene and you'll see this from a lot of reviewers, but her performance does remind you a lot of Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids and she was nominated for an Oscar for that performance and while it seems unlikely that Haddish will get a nomination due to a somewhat crowded field it would not be surprising if she did. As mentioned earlier the film is a tad predictable and the jokes that aren't running jokes fall flat sometimes to point where you feel forces to laugh when you really don't want to. Overall this is a very fun comedy film that pushed the genre into new territory and it has one of the best performances of the year so far. I give Girls Trip an 8 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Girls Trip, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
