So I recently watched The Dark Tower and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
Roland Deschain (played by Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, is locked in an eternal battle with Walter O'Dim (played by Matthew McConaughey), also known as the Man in Black. The Gunslinger must prevent the Man in Black from toppling the Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.
This film is a massive disappointment on an epic scale. The Dark Tower might possibly be Stephen King's most popular works ever done so much so that it spans several different books and in fact it is the central point for the entire Stephen King connected universe. What made the books so special is that the entire story was spread out over multiple books and each taking their time explaining things thoroughly to where it all makes sense. In this film however, the filmmakers decided to cram all of the material that was covered in the 9 books and the whole film turns out to be a mess. What also doesn't help is that while they are cramming a lot of material down your throat, they also do it in a very rapid pace to where the film only lasts 95 minutes and that just isn't enough time to explain everything. There are some things that stand out such as the visuals which are really breathtaking and at times you become enamored with the visuals you often forget what is happening on the big screen. Also both Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba give stellar performances and they portray the characters really and it looked like they had fun making the film. Overall the film has some great visuals and great performances, but the cramming of material into the film made everything feel convoluted and you could never really get into the flow of the film as well as the film moving at such a rapid pace, you barely had any time to take anything the film was trying to do in. I give The Dark Tower a 5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The Dark Tower, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
