My Review of The Emoji Movie

So I recently watched The Emoji Movie and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Hidden inside a smartphone, the bustling city of Textopolis is home to all emojis. Each emoji has only one facial expression, except for Gene (voiced by T.J. Miller), an exuberant emoji with multiple expressions. Determined to become "normal" like the other emojis, Gene enlists the help of his best friend Hi-5 (voiced by James Corden) and a notorious code breaker called Jailbreak (voiced by Anna Faris). During their travels through the other apps, the three emojis discover a great danger that could threaten their phone's very existence.

The popular trend from casual moviegoers is that Hollywood is out of original ideas and while that statement is a pretty false statement, it's hard to defend that Hollywood is being original when a film like this comes out. Now granted although it seems like they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to ideas this is an original so the argument is invalid. However with all of that being said this is quite possibly the worst original film ever put on screen. The concept of the film is actually a cool one when you put it one paper, but the execution is just dreadful. Nothing in this film makes any sense whatsoever and the film ends up being a massive advertisement for the biggest apps used on mobile devices. The film for the lack of a better word is emotionless and it being a movie based on emotions then that automatically spells trouble for the film as a whole. At the heart of the whole issue is that the filmmakers have no idea who they want there target audience to be and it shifts from being one certain type of film that caters to adults more than children and then it goes vice versa. There were a couple of things the film held back and it might be because it's a film they wanted young kids to see because kids these days play on their parents phone or tablet or crud even their own phone or tablet (with the way society is today neither would be shocking). It's a film blatantly rips off other classic animated films like a Wreck-It-Ralph or Inside Out and the filmmakers don't bother to tell you that. This is a film that shows Hollywood stooping to the lowest level possible to make a film and with the way Sony is being ran right now, this is not the quality type of film you want to be releasing when you face bankruptcy or the possibility of selling your film and tv studio. Overall this film is a dreadful piece of garbage that is a waste of time and it honestly makes terrible films like The Room, Birdemic or Samurai Cop look like The Godfather. I give The Emoji Movie a 0 out of 10. or in emoji terms 💩.
