So I recently watched Wonder Woman and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
Before she was Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (played by Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.
This film is absolutely amazing. One thing that has never worked in the past has been female led superhero films like Catwoman and Elektra and honestly not many people thought this film would work especially with the current track record of the current DCEU, but this film works on so many different levels. First off Gal Gadot is perfect as Diana/Wonder Woman and she really proved a lot of people wrong saying that she couldn't act and while she does seem a little wooden at times, but she is slowly getting better and really helps carry this film. It also doesn't hurt to have someone like Chris Pine as the co-star and he really does bring a perfect balance to the film and really picks up the slack when Gadot goes to the wayside. Storywise there are a lot of paint by number elements, but it does a nice job of telling the origin of Diana/Wonder Woman and it really helps you understand her character even more when you go back and watch her scenes in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. From a visual perspective, director Patty Jenkins doesn't pull any punches when it comes to certain battlefield scenes within WWI and she's able to take certain color pallets and make them look bright whilst still having a dark undertone to them and as for the main battle at the end, you can easily tell what is going on and in most cases you can't because some directors focus more on the damage being cause then what is causing the damage. As for a few negatives, there are some points where the film does slow down for a long period of time that can take you out of the film, but within it does do a nice job of world building. The Ares reveal is really lackluster and even Ares himself is just another villain and he'll be forgotten in future DCEU films unless he magically reappears. Overall this is a terrific film and a great save for the DCEU and the film really shows films can be great when being led by a female, but this puts a lot of pressure of the MCU to make Captain Marvel spectacular and not let the DCEU have the upper hand. I give Wonder Woman a 9 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Wonder Woman, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
