So I recently watched The Mummy (2017) and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
Nick Morton (played by Tom Cruise) is a soldier of fortune who plunders ancient sites for timeless artifacts and sells them to the highest bidder. When Nick and his partner come under attack in the Middle East, the ensuing battle accidentally unearths Ahmanet (played by Sofia Boutella), a betrayed Egyptian princess who was entombed under the desert for thousands of years. With her powers constantly evolving, Morton must now stop the resurrected monster as she embarks on a furious rampage through the streets of London.
This film is just an absolute piece of garbage. Universal pegged this film to be the jumpstart to their new Dark Universe combining all of the classic movie monsters under one banner and if this is the start they were expecting, then they have some pretty low expectations. The film is lazy from the very beginning as it brings you a lot of backstory fill er that really is unnecessary when it plays out almost exactly like the Brendan Fraser films did. Tom Cruise is a great actor and he does carry a certain celebrity status with him to where when you see him in a film you just think it's Tom Cruise and he really doesn't invest in the characters at all and he does that in this film. One thing you have to do with a film like this is make it terrifying, but also have a certain campiness to it and not let the characters take everything so seriously. With this being the film to set a universe in motion it does throw in a lot of material at you just to give you an idea of what to expect and honestly those are the most boring scenes. Visually the effects are spectacular, but that's honestly the only thing the film has going for it. Nothing about this film says universe starter and it just feels like we're already on a messy path to bring some great characters together in one massive film down the line. Overall its a really boring a generic action film that has some decent visuals with a lack of character development or interest with everything being taken way too seriously in a film as ridiculous as this one. I give The Mummy (2017) a 2 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The Mummy (2017), what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
