With Sin City: A Dame to Kill For being released this weekend in theaters, I thought it would be fitting to review its predecessor Sin City. So without further ado...
Interweaving multiple storylines from the series' history, this violent crime noir paints the picture of the ultimate town without pity through the eyes of its roughest characters. There's the street thug Marv (played by Mickey Rourke), whose desperate quest to find the killer of a prostitute named Goldie (played by Jaime King) will lead him to the foulest edges of town. Inhabiting many of those areas is Dwight (played by Clive Owen), a photographer in league with the sordid ladies of Sin City, headed by Gail (played by Rosario Dawson), who opens up a mess of trouble after tangling with a corrupt cop by the name of Jackie Boy (played by Benicio Del Toro). Finally, there's Hartigan (played by Bruce Willis), an ex-cop with a heart problem who's hell-bent on protecting a stripper named Nancy (played by Jessica Alba).
This film is just simply awesome. It's one of the few graphic novels that I haven't read but I really did like comic book feel it had to it by using each panel in the novel in the film to make it feel authentic. I also really like the black and white coloring of the film and it really sets the film off. Plus the visual effects in the film are just simply beautiful. It also takes from a lot of the great film noirs and uses them to the films advantage. The acting in the film is superb as well and I really like the character of Marv played by Mickey Rourke who completely owns the role. I will say however that the films plot is simple and pretty boring and I just couldn't really get into the film. Overall the film is beautiful yet very boring. I give Sin City an 8 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Sin City, what would you rate it, what did you think of my review and are you excited for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
