Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

As announced back in May, Lionsgate has plans to bring Saban's hit children's series Power Rangers to the big screen. Today, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the production has signed X-Men: First Class screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz and has brought Roberto Orci (Star Trek Into Darkness, Transformers) on board as executive producer.
Saban launched "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" as a live-action TV series more than 20 years ago, and the series has been in continuous production ever since. It has subsequently grown into one of the world’s most popular and recognizable brands, with toys, apparel, costumes, video games, DVD's, comic books and other merchandise.
20th Century Fox previously released two feature films, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 1995 and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997.
This awesome news. I really loved X-Men: First Class and Roberto Orci is one of the best in the business (yes he wrote The Amazing Spider-Man 2 but I'll give him a free pass on that). No one honestly knows how excited I am for the film. I grew up watching the Power Rangers and I cant wait to see them back on the big screen.
Walt Disney Animation Studios has debuted the trailer for their first Marvel Comics-inspired film, Big Hero 6, which you can check out in the video below.
Big Hero 6 is an action comedy adventure about brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city.
Featuring the voices of Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, TJ Miller, Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr., Genesis Rodriguez, Daniel Henney. Maya Rudolph, James Cromwell, and Alan Tudyk, the movie is set to hit theaters on November 7.
This is a really great trailer. It has a lot of really good humor and it doesn't give too much away about the film. I'm excited to see how Disney does with an animated comic book film and this trailer has certainly gotten me excited.
Walt Disney Pictures today announced that 10-year-old Neel Sethi will make his acting debut as Mowgli, the star of Jon Favreau's upcoming The Jungle Book. Neel is a newcomer from New York picked from among thousands of auditions that occurred during an extensive worldwide search ranging from New York to New Zealand, London to Canada, and all throughout the United States and India.
"Casting is the most important element of any film and finding the right kid to play Mowgli was imperative," said director Jon Favreau. "Neel has tremendous talent and charisma. There is a lot riding on his little shoulders and I'm confident he can handle it." "Neel embodies the heart, humor, and daring of the character," adds casting director Sarah Finn. "He's warm and accessible, yet also has an intelligence well beyond his years and impressed us all with his ability to hold his own in any situation. Even though he has no professional acting experience, his natural charisma and instincts jumped out at us."
As Mowgli, Neel will be the only actor onscreen in the film, but it will also feature the voice talents of Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong'o and Ben Kingsley. Based on the book by Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book is a combination of live-action and animation and will be released in 3D on October 9, 2015.
This is pretty interesting news. The casting somewhat surprises me but yet it doesn't. It does in the sense that the kid has never been in a film before and that is always a scary situation. But I also like it becuase this is probably the type of kid that you get for this role. But I do trust Disney and hopefully this works out.
Earlier this summer, the saga of Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man and being replaced by Peyton Reed unfolded over just two weeks. Speaking at a Q&A for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, at which footage from Avengers: Age of Ultron was shown, IGN asked Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige why he decided on Reed to direct the film, which allowed him to open about about the process:
"Peyton is someone that I've been a fan of for a long time. People may not remember, though probably your readers remember, that he was attached to Fantastic Four more than 10 years ago. We spent a lot of time together… and I got along with Peyton very, very well and he had awesome ideas and an awesome vision for the movie, and for various reasons he ended up leaving that movie...'Peyton was always on our lists, and so when this happened and Edgar [Wright] said 'Not for me' we met with a handful of people, but Peyton was always one that I thought would be great.
"It was not a slam-dunk that he would just step into it and do it. He wanted to be sure that he was wasn't just inheriting something or following someone else's lead. Or wasn't inheriting something that the evil studio had watered down to be something bad. I kept saying, 'You can either read what's online, or come in and talk to us and look at all this stuff.' He looked at everything, he talked with us, and he said 'Number one, I agree with the direction you’re going in. And number two, I can add to it.' And he has – the movie is in as good a shape as it's ever been right now.'
Starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, David Dastmalchian, Patrick Wilson and Corey Stoll, Ant-Man is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.
This is really good to hear. The whole Edgar Wright saga really hurt this film and gave it a set-back, but to Marvel and Kevin Feige on acting quickly to keep this project on target for next summer. Now to Peyton Reed, he wasn't my first choice and his track record casts a little doubt that he'll do a great job with Ant-Man. But other things have surprised me and I hope that he can do a good job.
Christian Bale is eyeing the iconic literary role of Travis McGee in the upcoming The Deep-Blue Good-by, set to be helmed by his 3:10 to Yuma director, James Mangold. Variety has the news, reporting that Bale is in early talks to play the central character behind the first book in John D. MacDonald's popular mystery series. Published in 1964, it is officially described as follows:
Travis McGee is a self-described beach bum who won his houseboat in a card game. He’s also a knight-errant who’s wary of credit cards, retirement benefits, political parties, mortgages, and television. He only works when his cash runs out, and his rule is simple: He’ll help you find whatever was taken from you, as long as he can keep half.
McGee isn’t particularly strapped for cash, but how can anyone say no to Cathy, a sweet backwoods girl who’s been tortured repeatedly by her manipulative ex-boyfriend Junior Allen? What Travis isn’t anticipating is just how many women Junior has torn apart and left in his wake. Enter Junior’s latest victim, Lois Atkinson.
Frail and broken, Lois can barely get out of bed when Travis finds her, let alone keep herself alive. But Travis turns into Mother McGee, giving Lois new life as he looks for the ruthless man who steals women’s spirits and livelihoods. But he can’t guess how violent his quest is soon to become. He’ll learn the hard way that there must be casualties in this game of cat and mouse.
The McGee series, which includes an additional 20 entries, is being eyed as a potential big-screen franchise for 20th Century Fox. Leonardo DiCaprio, who is producing through Appian Way alongside Jennifer Davisson-Killoran, was planning to play the McGee role at one point.
If this is true then this is perfect casting. I always say it's never wrong to get talent and Bale is an Academy-Award winning actor so he's got that going for him. Plus in just reading the description of the character and thinking about it, Christina Bale fits this perfectly. Just reading the description of the series makes me really interested in the film.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, which of these stories peaked your interest or was there another story that interested you? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
