7-1-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

There's been a lot of back and forth on if and when Paramount Pictures might move forward with G.I. Joe 3, especially when previous director Jon Chu moved onto other things, but since then, the third installment has been announced for a 2016 release and Paramount have now hired Jonathan Lemkin to write it.

A TV writer in the late '80s and '90s on shows like "Hill Street Blues" and "21 Jump Street", Lemkin has a fairly short filmography, having written 1997's The Devil's Advocate and 1998's Lethal Weapon 4 as well as 2007's Mark Wahlberg movie Shooter for Paramount. The latter film was produced by Lorenzo DiBonaventura, who is also the producer of the "G.I. Joe" franchise, giving him two previous connections that may have helped him get the assignment. Lemkin is also adapting a GQ article called The Longest Night for Paramount which Frank Marshall is attached to direct.

While no plot details are available and it's not determined whether any previous development on the third movie will be retained, it's safe to assume that Dwayne Johnson's Roadblock, who became a fan favorite after being introduced in last year's $370 million grossing sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, will be returning and playing a major role in the third movie. Others from that movie should also be returning. The hope is to get the film into production by sometime next year for it to meet its 2016 release date.

Do we really need a G.I. Joe 3. I mean after the =awful mess that was G.I. Joe: Retaliation I don't think there needs to be one. I am however interested in the film because of the writer who has wrote some great tv shows and Shooter which I thought was an underrated film. Overall it sucks this is happening but that's how Hollywood goes.

New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures have released the teaser trailer for Horrible Bosses 2, opening in theaters on November 26. Directed by Sean Anders, the sequel stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz.

Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick, Dale and Kurt decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business in Horrible Bosses 2. But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor's adult son and ransom him to regain control of their company.

This is a great teaser trailer. It gives us just the good feeling that these guys are coming back to the big screen. I really enjoyed the first film and I can't wait to see this one. I also like the addition of Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz to the cast.

Olivia Munn, who stars in this week's new supernatural thriller Deliver Us From Evil, is in talks to join the Universal Pictures sequel Ride Along 2. Coming to theaters on January 15, 2016, the Tim Story-directed film will reunite Ice Cube and Kevin Hart and also stars Benjamin Bratt. According to Variety, Munn's schedule is being worked out so that she can do both the film and HBO's "Newsroom," which is about to start production on its third season. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi wrote the script for Ride Along 2, which is expected to be set in Miami. Cube and Matt Alvarez will produce for CubeVision alongside William Packer for Will Packer Productions. Larry Brezner will also produce.

I'm not really that excited to hear. First let's start off with Olivia Munn. don't get me wrong she's a good piece of eye-candy but she can't act worth a lick. Now to the other news of Ride Along 2. I'm not too happy to hear this. I wasn't a huge fan of the first film (it almost made my list of least favorite films this year so far). Hopefully the sequel can do better.

Marvel Studios has revealed both an international poster for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy You can check it out below. An action-packed, epic space adventure, the August 1 release expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy's fate in the balance. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro star in the August 1 release.

This is an ok trailer for me. it's not to flashy but it doesn't really do anything for me. Don't get me wrong I'm excited for the film and I can't wait to see the film but the poster just isn't that great.

A new big screen take on Homer's "The Odyssey" is on the way as Deadline today reports that Warner Bros. has set Russian director Fedor Bondarchuk (Stalingrad) to direct the epically-scaled Odysseus. "The Killing" scribe Jeremy Doner will adapt Homer's epic poem that tells the tale of Odysseus, a Greek King who, following the events of the Trojan War, finds himself on a long, strange journey home that puts him up against cannibals, sea monsters, sirens and a cyclops.

In 2004, Warner Bros. adapted Homer's The Iliad (which covers the events of the Trojan War) with German director Wolfang Petersen at the helm. In that film, which offered a wholly secular version of the story, Sean Bean played Odysseus. "The Odyssey" has spawned several direct adaptations, including 1955's Ulysses, starring Kirk Douglas, and a 1997 Francis Ford Coppola-produced telefilm version, starring Armand Assante in the lead. Borrowing elements from Preston Sturges' Sullivan's Travels, Joel and Ethan Coen told their own version of "The Odyssey" in 2000 with O Brother, Where Art Thou?, starring George Clooney as the Odysseus character. Shannon Gaulding, Bernie Goldmann and Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang will produce Odysseus alongside Paul Heth and Michael Schlicht.

Man I'm excited for this news. I'm a huge fan of Greek mythology and I can't wait to see the film. Now I have been fortunate enough to have read both The Iliad and The Odyssey and they are basically meant for the big screen. i'm not to familiar with the director but I'm hoping he can do a good job with the project.
