So I recently watched Insidious; The Last Key and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
Brilliant parapsychologist Elise Rainier (played by Lin Shaye) receives a disturbing phone call from a man who claims that his house is haunted. Even more disturbing is the address -- 413 Apple Tree Lane in Five Keys, N.M. -- the home where Elise grew up as a child. Accompanied by her two investigative partners, Rainier travels to Five Keys to confront and destroy her greatest fear -- the demon that she accidentally set free years earlier.
This is a fairly decent film. The Insidious franchise has been around since 2010 and so far its run this decade has been successful and to continually put out good material in every film is really hard to do, but this film is able to pull that off for the most part. The film does rely on a lot of cheap jump scares, but there are so moments that are truly terrifying which is again surprising that the franchise is still able to give fresh scares in the 4th film. Lin Shaye is phenomenal in the film and it's really great to see a horror film led by an elderly woman and the film is able to stay on a constant course without veering off the path Outside of Shaye's performance, the rest of the cast is pretty boring and really you just can't get that invested into them from the moment you meet them. To try to lighten the mood, the film adds in quite a bit of humor and none of it works and a lot of the comedic moments are pretty cringe worthy. Story wise at this point in the franchise you want to do a lot of world building and it really doesn't do much of that other than showing you how Elise became to be known as the psychologist she is in the other three films instead of building on the paranormal aspect. Overall this is an entry into the franchise that we as an audience didn't really need and ti shows in the storytelling, the performances and the input of ridiculous comedy, but there are some really creepy moments and it includes a standout performance from Lin Shaye. I give Insidious: The Last Key a 4 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Insidious: The Last key, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
