So I recently watched 12 Strong and I'm here to give you my review. So without further ado.........
In the wake of Sept. 11, Capt. Mitch Nelson (played by Chris Hemsworth) leads a U.S. Special Forces team into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. Once there, the soldiers develop an uneasy partnership with the Northern Alliance to take down the Taliban and its al-Qaida allies. Outgunned and outnumbered, Nelson and his forces face overwhelming odds in a fight against a ruthless enemy that takes no prisoners.
This is a really powerful and pretty emotional film. This was an interesting story to tell simply because it was classified for so long and not many people knew about what these soldiers did just days after the attacks on our country on 9/11. The film does a have a lot of the basic plot points you see from several other films, but somehow this film just felt different in the sense that it plays off of a lot of scenes where you think you know what is going to happen to a character(s), but the outcome isn't what you expect so it's something new and fresh. The performances in the film are really great and you expect that from guys like Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon and Michael Pena, but the real stand out is veteran actor Navid Negahban who gives a really deep and dark performance that so far is the best performance of the year and we''ll definitely see him in a lot of bigger films down the line. The biggest problem with the film is that it is a little over 2 hours long and there are some scenes in the film that are basically repetitive and you see and hear the exact same thing in back to back scenes just from different characters and there are a couple of scenes that look like were accidentally left in the film by the editor and they make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Overall this is a really great film diving deep into a very great and interesting story that was great to learn about and it doesn't follow the typical cliches you see in these types of films, but it does suffer from a lot of repetition and some sloppy editing that clunk up the film. I give 12 Strong a 7.5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of 12 Strong, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
