So I recently watched Life (2017) and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado....
Astronauts (played by Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds) aboard the International Space Station are on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As members of the crew conduct their research, the rapidly evolving life-form proves far more intelligent and terrifying than anyone could have imagined.
This is a really intense yet, very repetitive film. Bringing the sci-fi element into the horror/thriller genre is something we don't see that often so the film has that going for it. The cast assembled is really talented and the dynamic between the three leads (Gyllenhaal, Reynolds and Ferguson) and they do really help carry the film along and they did need to carry the film. As mentioned before, the film is repetitive as can be and you virtually see the same things happen to people throughout the film and it makes everything predictable which is what the biggest flaw of this film is. Another problem with the film is that it's unoriginal and really if watch films like Alien and The Thing then you've basically seen this film. While there are a few things wrong with the film, it also has other positives besides the acting and that would be the intensity. Now while things are pretty predictable which lessens the intensity, but there are some moments where the build up does get pretty heart-pounding but then once the moment happens all of the intensity goes away due to you already knowing what is going to happen. The biggest complaint about the film is the ending and it might be one of the worst endings ever shown on film and it's an ending that's been done before. Overall this film could've been something special, but it ended up being a complete copycat of other sci-fi horror films and it becomes more and more predictable as the film goes along. I give Life (2017) a 4 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Life (2017), what would you rate it and what did you think at my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
