So I recently watched Nocturnal Animals and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
A successful Los Angeles art-gallery owner's idyllic life is marred by the constant traveling of her handsome second husband. While he is away, she is shaken by the arrival of a manuscript written by her first husband, who she has not seen in years. The manuscript tells the story of a teacher who finds a trip with his family turning into a nightmare. As Susan (played by Amy Adams) reads the book, it forces her to examine her past and confront some dark truths.
This was a really weird and strange film to watch. When films try to do too much, often more times then not the film becomes very confusing and this film does that. It intertwines to very different stories and while the editing between each story is sharp and crisp, the stories themselves don't work at all. The cast is brilliant and every single actor and actresses are just unbelievable in every way and the stand outs are Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal who just make everything click when they are on screen together. Visually this film is just really gorgeous for a film that's not a big budget and as mentioned before the editing is just great and everything feels so seamless. The ideas presented in this film are brilliant, but they weren't executed well at all and it all goes back to director Tom Ford. Ford had a great first outing with A Single Man after being a fashion designer, but this film just doesn't really stand out as something special compared to that film. Emotions run high in this film and you'll just about every single one of them, but mostly you'll come out feeling sad, depressed, lonely unenthusiastic and every other dark emotion because this film leads down that path with the way the stories are told. Overall this film had a lot of great pieces to work with and at points the film as a whole does work, but overall it just doesn't connect as well as it should. I give Nocturnal Animals a 5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Nocturnal Animals, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
