My Review of Jackie

So I recently watched Jackie and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.............

Jackie (2016 film).png

After her husband's assassination, Jackie Kennedy's (played by Natalie Portman) world is completely shattered. Traumatized and reeling with grief, over the course of the next week she must confront the unimaginable: consoling their two young children, vacating the home she painstakingly restored, and planning her husband's funeral. Jackie quickly realizes that the next seven days will determine how history will define her husband's legacy - and how she herself will be remembered.

This is a really boring and disappointing film. Jackie Kennedy is one of the most polarizing figures of the 20th century and everything she was able to accomplish in her time as the first lady of this country will forever be remembered. However when looking back in film history, this film will be completely forgotten. It's not because of the performance of Natalie Portman because she is just phenomenal as Mrs. Kennedy and it's a performance that will go down as one of the greatest of all-time and she is virtually a lock to not only get a nomination, but a win for the Best Actress Oscar next year. The rest of the cast however disappoints on a lot of different levels and it's mainly because every other role is miscast and it almost feels like a parody of those individuals in the film. This isn't your typical bio-pic as it doesn't cover the entire life story, but instead focuses on the aftermath of the assassination of JFK and how her life was changed in a very dramatic way. It does a nice job of covering a lot of moments that nobody really knew that much about and at how good she was at hiding her true emotions throughout the entire process. There are a lot of haunting and just emotional moments and the one that really stands out is the moment when you see her after the assassination happens and the blood of her husband is on face and it just becomes so dark and scary where you can feel her pain and everything running through her mind. The film is beautifully shot and it has some great costumes, however it fails in the sense that the story as a whole doesn't work and ti often times focuses are some minor unnecessary details which leaves no room for you to focus on the important details that would shape the nation for the next 50+ years. Overall this film is a slow build with one of the greatest performances of all-time, beautiful scenery and camera shots that make the film have a haunting presence, but the overall execution main focal points are the main thread of the film. I give Jackie a 7.5 out of 10.
