Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...
Has Marvel Studios found its Captain Marvel star? Variety is reporting that the recent Academy Award winner has entered early talks to play Carol Danvers and that she is the current frontrunner for the role. In the regular Marvel Comics continuity, Carol Danvers made her first appearance in 1968’s “Marvel Super-Heroes” #13. A Security Chief in the US air force, Danvers would later be transformed into the superhero Ms. Marvel following an explosion involving Kree technology. More recently, Danvers took on the identity of Captain Marvel after being “promoted” to the moniker of the former Kree superhero. Little is known regarding Marvel’s specific plans for Captain Marvel outside of the fact that the film will feature the Danvers version of the character. It was confirmed last year that a Captain Marvel cameo was, at one point, part of the script for Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained that the decision was ultimately made not to rush her appearance. It was also recently reported that Captain Marvel will make her debut in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War, which is set to begin production in November. The first part of Infinity War is scheduled to hit the big screen May 4, 2018 with the second half following on May 3, 2019. Between those two films will be Captain Marvel, which arrives March 8, 2019. Brie Larson is no stranger to comic book adaptations. She played Envy Adams in Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Following her Oscar win for last year’s Room, Larson is headed to adventure as part of the cast of next March’s Kong: Skull Island. Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) are scripting Captain Marvel, which does not yet have a director attached.
This would be a perfect choice if this comes true. Brie Larson has really become a star in the past couple of years with her brilliant performance in Short Term 12 and her Oscar-winning performance in Room and her getting this role would be no surprise. Generally when you win an Oscar you gain enormous momentum and this is one of the perfect examples. I think Larson is the perfect fit for Carol Danvers although I was rooting for someone like Katee Sackhoff or Emily Blunt for the role.
Steven Spielberg has found himself the perfect griefer in none other than Deadpool and Silicon Valley star TJ Miller. According to The Hollywood Reporter, TJ Miller will play an online troll who goes by the username i-R0k in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Ernest Cline’s best seller. The Ready Player One movie cast also includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cook, Simon Pegg and Ben Mendelsohn. Set in the near future, Ready Player One follows outcast teenager Wade Watts (Sheridan), who escapes from his bleak surroundings by logging in to the OASIS, a globally networked virtual utopia where users can lead idyllic alternate lives. When eccentric billionaire who created the OASIS dies, he offers up his vast fortune as the prize in an elaborate treasure hunt. Along with gamers from around the world, Wade joins the adventure, and quickly finds himself pitted against powerful corporate foes and other ruthless competitors who will do anything, in the oasis or the real world, to reach the treasure first. A Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures production, the Ready Player One movie is being directed by Spielberg, who is also producing alongside Donald De Line, under his De Line Pictures banner, Dan Farah and Kristie Macosko Krieger. Bruce Berman will serve as executive producer. Look for the Ready Player One movie to hit the big screen March 30, 2018.
This is terrific casting. TJ Miller is one of the funniest actors on the planet and for him to get a role like this fits him perfectly. He'll be able to use his comedic timing with personality of an online troll and I think the character is going to be fantastic. This is a film that has peaked my interest from the start and after hearing a lot of people explain the premise, I'm really glad that someone like Spielberg is directing the film. My only hate comes from the fact that it doesn't come out until 2018, but it's already on my most anticipated list.
Even before director Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario hit theaters last year, it was revealed that plans were underway for a sequel. Today, Deadline has a major update, reporting that the followup, titled Soldado, will be helmed by Italian director Stefano Sollima (Gomorra, A.C.A.B.) As previously revealed, Soldado will feature the return of Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro as Alejandro Gillick. Sicario followed FBI agent Kate (Emily Blunt) and her conflicting journey that descended into the intrigue, corruption and moral mayhem of the borderland drug wars. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, Kate is exposed to the brutal world of international drug trafficking by members of a government task force who have enlisted her in their plan to take out a Mexican cartel boss. Josh Brolin will be back as CIA Agent Matt Graver with Sicario and Sons of Anarchy scribe Taylor Sheridan also returning to script Soldado. Emily Blunt, however, is not expected to appear in the new film. She’s headed into a very different feature film as Walt Disney Pictures just this week confirmed that she’ll play the title role in the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns. Look for that one to hit the big screen December 25, 2018. Soldado, which aims to begin production this fall, will be financed by both Black Label Media and Lionsgate. Returning producers include Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures and Molly Smith of Black Label as well as Edward L. McDonnell and Thad and Trent Luckinbill.
This is really unexpected news to hear. As the article mentions, the possibility of a Sicario sequel was always talked about, but I never believed it due to Sicario ending on such a perfect note and I didn't think more could be told and I guess I was wrong. I'm very curious as to how much more they will explain and expand with the Cartel of if they go in a completely new direction. Seeing Brolin and Del Toro are both returning as they were the true stars of film more than Emily Blunt was.
Back in December, it was reported that Prisoners and Contraband writer Aaron Guzikowski, who is also penning one of the planned Universal Monster movies, would write the script for Paramount Pictures’ Friday the 13th reboot after the departure of director David Bruckner. Now The Reel Word has interviewed Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller about the newest installment in the series, and where the story might take the beloved Jason Voorhees. “Aaron’s story has great characters…You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward,” said Fuller. When asked to clarify it was an origin story, he stated it will be “Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.” Pamela, of course, refers to Jason’s momma, who was the psychotic villain of the original film before Jason himself stepped up to the plate for all the remaining sequels. As for the rumors of the next movie being found footage, Fuller admits that the tired device was considered but ultimately (thankfully) abandoned. “There was a lot of found-footage scripts that they wanted us to make and I was not going to do that because I don’t think that can exist in Jason Voorhees’ world,” Fuller confirmed. As it stands now, the new film’s plot is “under wraps,” but the smart money would be that it centers on hockey-mask wearing killer Jason Voorhees stalking and slashing teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake. The Friday the 13th franchise currently consists of ten original “solo” films, the 2003 crossover Freddy vs. Jason, and, most recently, the 2009 reboot. There was also a short-lived television series that, despite its title, was unconnected to the plot of the film franchise. A new Friday the 13th television series is also currently in development for The CW. Paramount currently has Friday the 13th is set for release on January 13, 2017.
This very interesting news to hear. I dislike the fact they are making a new Friday the 13th film because the franchise has ran it's course and I just don;'t know how much more you can add. I alos despise the idea of the film coming out on January 13th, 2017 as that would make a Friday the 13th film come out on Friday the 13th. I do however like the fact that they are going in a new direction and making it a different origin, but hopefully that don't stray too far away from what was established before. One huge plus is that the film won't be a found footage film and we can actually get a clear idea of what is going on in the film. Although I do think that found footage could work well with this particular franchise, but I'm glad it won't be apart of it.
Invincible Pictures has released the poster for Yoga Hosers, Kevin Smith‘s latest directorial effort starring Lily-Rose Depp, Harley Quinn Smith, Justin Long, Austin Butler, Adam Brody, Ralph Garman, Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne, Haley Joel Osment, Vanessa Paradis, Tyler Posey, Genesis Rodriguez, Jennifer Schwalbach, Jason Mewes and Johnny Depp. Check out the Yoga Hosers poster below, eh? 15-year-old yoga-nuts Colleen Collette and Colleen McKenzie love their smart phones and hate their after school job at Manitoban convenience store Eh-2-Zed. But when an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party, the Colleens join forces with the legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe to fight for their lives with all seven Chakras, one Warrior Pose at a time. Depp, Depp the younger and Smith the younger are returning in the roles they created for Tusk. Produced by Liz Destro, Jordan Monsanto and Jennifer Schwalbach, Yoga Hosers is written, directed and edited by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Zack & Miri Make a Porno). The PG-13 movie will be released on July 29 with limited sneak peek on July 28.
This is a pretty nice poster. I mean it give you a pretty good idea of how crazy this film is going to be especially by the image of the Brautwurst's at the bottom of the poster and itf you've seen the trailer, then you know how insane the film looks. We get a pretty haunting look of both Lily-Rose Depp and Harley Quinn Smith and just how awesome they look as they are going to be tough to mess with. I love Kevin Smith, but I wasn't too overthrilled with Tusk, but I think this film can be pretty great and I'm willing to give it a shot.
