Man of Steel Preview: Why DC's Future In Movies Relies On Its Success

Superman, some love him, some hate and there are some that don't even know who he is (yes there are people in this world). In the comic book world, Superman is considered the greatest superhero of all-time and he is also considered an icon in american history. My personal view of superman is that I do not like him one bit simply because I do not believe in someone being indestructible. But enough of my personal views about the character and lets get down to business. I will say that I am actually excited to see this as a regular movie-goer.

Now Man of Steel is a reboot of the Superman film franchise ( no it is not a sequel to the abysmal and horrible movie Superman Returns). It stars relativity unknown actor Henry Cavil as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Johnathan and Martha Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-el, and Kentucky native Michael Shannon as General Zod. The film is directed by Zack Snyder who brought us 300 and Watchmen and it is produced by Christopher Nolan who brought us the Batman Trilogy and Inception.

This movie has a lot of potential and more than likely will be one of the top three highest grossing movies of the year. This movie can also be a huge failure especially coming off of a movie like Superman Returns (eventhough the films are not related in storyline). The film is also making some major changes to the character of Superman. For one he will not being wearing any red underwear overtop of his costume, secondly he will be Clark Kent but not he will not work at the daily planet and he will not be wearing any glasses to hide his identity. The villain in this movie will not be Lex Luthor but it instead will be General Zod ( as mentioned before). If you do not know who Zod is then go back and watch Superman 2 and you will completely understand who he is. Another thing great about this movie is that will see more of Krypton and more of Jor-el (Superman's father) basically explaining who Superman or Kal-el (Superman's name on Krypton)  is and what he could mean to the people of earth.

Rumors have been rampant that there will be a end credits scene that will lead to a Justice League Movie, well I hate to play spoiler but from what I have heard there is no need to stay after the credits for an end credit scene. I'm not saying there isn't one but from what I've gathered there is not one.

One thing that has been confirmed is that Warner Brothers has already green lit a Man of Steel 2. What this tells me is that the studio is ready to compete with Marvel and Disney's Avengers with a Justice League movie. Now you may ask how can this be possible, well Man of Steel could be compared to Iron Man 1 in the sense that it hints at a possible JL movie but it doesn't really delve deep into it but Man of Steel 2 could be compared to Iron Man 2 ( hopefully its better than Iron Man 2) where it fully explains and says that there will be a Justice League movie. For Warner Brothers to really go forward with Man of Steel 2 means that they really enjoyed and that they are expecting an excellent box office. My prediction for this is that this weekend Man of Steel will make $100 million and worldwide at the end of its run will be a grand total of... $750 million. This will be the only way a Justice League movie can be made and in all honesty it does need to succeed, The reason why it needs to succeed is because competition is good an if DC and Marvel are in competition with each other then the studio will make there next movie better and we as fans get excellent quality movies for our viewing pleasure.

So ladies and gentlemen what do you think of Man of Steel, how excited are you, what are your box office predictions. Let me know in the comments and let your voice be heard.

  1. Zach Snyder has already said there will be a Justice League Movie, and Man of Steele 2 will set it up.
